Annual Welcome back party

Last Weekend Chuck Nesbit (our esteemed club president) hosted the annual welcome back party for all of the people returning to the desert for the winter season. The pictures were taken by the world famous photographer, Ron Chang. I hope to get some pictures from other people who were there who promised to send some to me. There was lots of good food including large plates of the finest meats the country can provide and key lime pie made by the famous chef, Ron Chang.

Trona

Weekend before last a group of us went to Trona, California's annual (I am not sure what to call it) annual dig in the salt flats for crystals weekend. There was a pancake breakfast at the Trona Community Church and all the people (there were a lot of them from all over) were led to an area of the salt flats. The pictures here are of the waiting cars, digging in mud for hanksite crystals, and digging for halite crystals. As you can see, a good time was had by all.

Last Saturday, Elize Van Zandt led a hike in the San Bernardino Mountains to see the only natural aspen grove in the our local mountains. As far as I know, the nearest other grove is in the eastern Sierras or maybe Arizona. We don't get the red leaves that they have back east, Just a nice yellow. I saw aspens that had turned and also some black oaks and what were probably some black cottonwoods that were also a nice yellow color. Here are the pictures.
