Bradshaw Trail Trip

This Sunday, A group of us got in our 4 wheel drives and took a trip to the Bradshaw Trail. I know this is not really a hiking trip, but we were scouting out a scheduled spring club trip to the Chuckwalla Bench, a unique biological area.

We stopped on the way to see the petroglyphs at the entrance to Hayfield Canyon.

Then we went south on the Red Cloud Mine Road eventially ending up on the Bradshaw Trail. The trial was constructed in the 19th century to save time getting to some gold fields near the Colorado River. It was in good shape and looked like it had just been graded. It passes by the Naval bombing range. Yes, those are bombs in the pictures. We had one flat tire on Ron's truck which was changed without too much trouble although it almost fell off the jack. I got to use my hi lift jack. We also found some great examples of Munz's Cholla, a cactus that only grows on the Chuckwalla Bench.
