Richard's Hike to the Pushawalla Plateau

On Sunday 18, 2007 Richard let a group of six hikers to the Pushawalla Plateau in Joshua Tree. We started the hike at the end of the Geology Tour Road. The route we took followed a series of old mining roads and let us up the the crest where we could look down on the Coachella Valley. The roads were obviously very old. We found some old ruins from the mining operations. There was also an old mill wheel and some very old cans. The only flowers we saw were the usual bladder bod bush and one lonely Loco weed (probably Atralagus lentiginosus). Richard always leads interesting hikes. Make sure to sign up with him next time he has one on the schedule.

Landsailing Pictures

We haven't seen our old friend, Steve Stevenson for a while. He is a club member and often goes on our hikes. The explanation is that he has been going out to various dry lakes with his wind sailors most weekends. He sent me some great pictures. These were taken on Superior Dry Lank and Ivanpah Dry Lake. Did you know that a land sailor can go faster than the wind?

   

Annual Hike for Hope

Last Sunday, March 4, 2007, the hiking club took part in the annual Hike for Hope which raises Money for breast cancer research at the City of Hope. Hundreds of people showed up and everyone had a good time. I haven't heard how much money was raised but I bet it was more that last year. My hike was the Victor Trail and somehow I ended up with 62 people. I wasn't able to take a picture of the whole line of people. Everything went well, however, and everybody got back safely. I hope that some other people who were there will send me some more pictures of the event. I saw lots of people with cameras. Here is the link for the Hike for Hope.
