Katie and I went with 7 other Club members and did The Climb For Hero’s last Sunday. There were 400 climbers and 300 reached the summit. They had 4 camps on the way and had wounded vets manning each camp and passing out completed coins for that camp. The guy we were climbing for “Charlie” was on the summit and passing out the Summit coins to all the climbers. Here are some pictures. We raised $100,000.00 on Sunday.
Pic#1: This is a wounded vet at Camp#2 passing out coins to climbers. He has no legs. Check the smile on his face and the lump in my throat. He had 2 tours.
Pic#2: This is our group supporting Charlie who is in the center in back at the summit. He has his right foot blown off and one hand. He is on his way to climb Mt. Everest to provide encouragement to other disabled vets that they can do anything they want. He had 2 tours and went back to be with his people when he was wounded.
Pic#3: is the top of the peak. It is called Mt. Baldy and has another name of San Antonio. It is north of Ontario, California and is a little over 10,000’.
